Introduction: Hi, my name is Cat and I'm asking for your help to get my car out of impoundment, tires replaced so it'll pass inspection, a tax lien against it in my old state lifted, and legal and registered in my new state. I'm a single parent with an executive function disability who is job hunting, so this is pretty critical for me. My estimated costs are $5000 [EDIT: now $6000, I found out how much to get it back and need to increase the amount needed, see update 1] to get my car sorted, registered in my state, and my ability to drive restored, plus a bit extra to cover the usual fees associated with fundraisers here. (If that changes I'll update immediately, along with a more concrete cost breakdown.) Why I need help: I moved to Maryland in November, then lost my job in January and as some of you know have been struggling to make ends meet; my old state (Virginia) refused to accept proof from my insurance company that I was insured and also kept charging me property tax that meant I couldn't register my car in Maryland until that was paid; there is now a lien against my car for that, as well. I need to pass a MD inspection, and in March sustained sidewall damage to a tire which means I need to replace both front tires to pass inspection and register the car. In addition, VA DMV's refusal to accept repeated proof of insurance directly from my insurance company meant that they suspended my license -- blocking me from transferring THAT to MD. Then they canceled it because I moved (despite blocking my transferring my license to MD via that suspension), so I need to start from scratch and likely retake a driving test as well. (My insurance company thinks VA DMV is insane and is just as frustrated as I am.) My bank got cranky about missed car payments and repossessed my car. So now I have to get up to date with payments on it, hunt it down, get it out of impoundment, get damage from my neighbor sideswiping it fixed (fortunately neighbor's insurance will cover that part), and get myself legal as well. While job hunting. I need your help to get my car out of limbo and registered in my state so that I can get to work and start earning an income again. I have been applying for jobs, but without a car, it has been difficult to get to interviews. I am also a single parent with an executive dysfunction disability and I need my car to get my children to school and other activities, and myself to what medical appointments I can manage. How the money will be used: The money raised from this LFEBridge campaign will be used to pay release fees to the bank, taxes, tire repairs, registration fees, and other costs associated with getting my car and myself back on the road. Any additional funds will be used to help me with living and medical expenses until I am able to find a new job. (I work in the tech sector, which has been hit hard this year.) How you can help: If you are able to donate to my LFEBridge campaign, I would be incredibly grateful. Any amount, no matter how small, would help me get my car back and get my life back on track. You can also help by sharing my campaign on social media. Thank you for your support! Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering donating to my LFEBridge campaign. I appreciate your support more than you know. Sincerely, Cat
