Hello, my name is Dawn and I have 2 amazing girls. Delilah is 4 and Maddy is 12. I do have a soon to be 20 year old son, Sean, shown in the picture, but he is off on his own and not a member of our household. I have been a victim of domestic violence and emotional abuse by my husband. There was an incident on June 25, that was my final straw, and on Monday June 26, I woke up and packed a suitcase and a few clothes baskets for my girls and left my home and my husband. I do not have family in the area and we had nowhere to go. We ended up staying in a hotel for a few nights before being accepted into a domestic violence shelter. We have been here since June 28 and are considered homeless. We have a 90 day stay limit to live here and need to find housing as soon as we can. I have had lots of expenses with moving out of my previous home and breaking the lease, plus getting myself into a good financial position to afford my own place on one income. I am lucky and greatful to have a wonderful job working at Western WI Health full time, making enough money to provide long term stability. I found and was approved for a 2 bedroom apartment in Baldwin, at the Baldwin Cottages for a Sept 1 move in date. School is starting soon and the ability to keep my girls in the Baldwin school district close to friends, work, and daycare is crucial for our mental health. Rent is $1000.00 a month and I am able to pay first month's rent and moving expenses with my wages. I am also looking into selling my wedding ring to help (although it is a hard decision), and cashing my 401K. I'm willing to do it if it means having a safe place for me and my girls. What I need help with: my security deposit is $1880.00 to move in. It is a $1000.00 deposit plus an additional deposit of $880.00 due to filing bankruptcy 3.5 years ago. Full disclosure, we have been rebuilding our life and have been on a wonderful track until we hit this bump in the road. I have applied for multiple programs to help, which I have been denied since I am over the eligibility limit (working a full time job is not in my favor on this one). Places I have applied are ARC, Operation Help, WestCap, United Way, and emergency assistance. I will be calling Salvation Army and Rural Housing also in the next few days. Asking for help is not something I am good at. But I feel trapped and at the end of my road with options. Some days it seems easier to go back to my abuser and I am so sad that so many other women have to resort to that option. If you decide to donate to help us get into our own place, it would be so greatly appreciated and go directly towards our security deposit. Thank you so much for your consideration!
