Hi my name is Jenna, and I am fundraising for my friend Carlos Santiago. On Monday, July 10, 2024, Ludlow VT was hit with a torrential downpour that resulted in the breaching of a dam, causing catastophic flooding, whom some say was worse than Hurricane Irene in 2011. During the storm, many have reached out to Carlos in hopes that he'd be able to move his vehicle from where it was parked. It was parked behind his work office right next to a small brook. It was initially parked there because the car had no brakes and was unsafe to drive, and in the meantime used his company vehicle as transportation. He had hopes that he would be able to get the brakes replaced the Friday following the storm, after receiving a paycheck. Unfortunately for Carlos, and the car, the roads started flooding, and with the flood became unpassable. Even if the car were safe to drive, he would not have been able to get it home without jeopardizing the safety of himself and others. To those who know Carlos, you will know that he is a kind hearted individual, and served with the Armed Forces for 6 years. His car meant everything to him, and it was all he had, like many others who have suffered loss during this time. In a Facebook video posted on Tuesday, July 11, 2024, by Josh Lambert Sr., you can see Carlos' car being sucked under a bridge. It was the last we saw of the car until Thursday, July 12, 2024. It was found by another Ludlow resident, stuck in the river behind Chef Mei, underneath trees, sand, mud, and other debris. We were able to retrieve some small items from the car, but that's all we could do. Everything else was lost. Video of Carlos' car being sucked under In speaking to the insurance company, and Benny's towing, the estimate to pull the car out of the river for an insurance claim would be over $3,000, which is not supported through Geico. Because the story has been followed by nearly 300,000 people from the beginning, we are hoping that some of you will be able to help donate something, anything, to my friend, to help him retrieve his car, and get his life back in working order.
