Hi! I am Georgina and I have Cushing’s Disease. This entire ordeal started about 5 years ago. Prior to this, I was very healthy and active. I enjoyed running, I completed a 5K for charity. My entire life I was always very petite. I first starting gaining weight rapidly in 2019-2024. I wasn’t too worried about it at first because I had not been to the gym during Covid so I figured that’s why it happened. Then my feet grew, from a size 7 to a size 10. I found that strange, but still I just shrugged it off. I had hormonal acne, and absolutely horrific migraines. That’s when I went to my Doctor to get help. At first I tried various migraine medications. Then one day all my symptoms on a web search and the term “Cushing’s Disease” popped up. I had never heard of it before. It occurs when there is a tumour growing on your Pituitary Gland causes havoc in your body and mind. It has been a LONG process to not only obtain a diagnosis but to also secure a neurosurgeon. My surgery is scheduled for the end of November. I’m in a bit of a difficult situation because I do not qualify as low income. I love my job, but I get paid in cash so I do not qualify for EI sick benefits. What I would like to do with these funds is pre pay my rent for a few months so I can take time to recover. Make some modifications to my apartment including black out curtains (I’m very photosensitive), and purchase a deep freeze to stock up on frozen meals. This has been a long journey to finally get here. Sadly, not everyone in my life has been supportive of me getting this surgery. I’ve made the decision to listen to my Doctors and specialists. I am extremely appreciative of the support I’ve received from my friends and family. Thank you I’m advance for your generosity!!
