UPDATE August 1, 2024On July 30, 2024 my Grandma Dory passed after fighting for her life in the ICU at Eskenazi Hospital. The damage to her lungs and body from the fire was a lot for her to handle. She suffered from second degree burns on her body and internal burns to her lungs. Many procedures had to be done during her stay there. My grandmother also suffered a stroke that effected the entire left side of her brain. With her lungs not recovering and unable to hold air, other organ systems in her body began to fail quickly. Her body was relying solely on the machine near the end. She passed peacefully, surrounded by family that Sunday afternoon. She is now able to finally be at peace without pain or suffering, but we will all miss her dearly. For final arrangements she will be cremated and her last wishes were to have her ashes returned to the Philippines. My mother will have to fly there to do this, which is not cheap. My mother and father are still displaced without a home and belongings and are also struggling with their health. This is going to be long road before we get back to any normalcy. So I’m going to continue to try to raise money any way I can for them to help them get back on their feet and to honor the last wishes of my Grandma Dory. Thanks to everyone for their support. ———————————————————————————————On July 8, 2024 my parents home caught fire with my grandmother, father and the family pet inside. My father and the dog managed to escape but my grandmother was trapped inside for quite sometime until the firefighters were able to get her. My mother was at work during this time so she was safe from harm. Both my grandmother and father were airlifted to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. They suffer from severe internal burns to their throat and lungs leading them to be sedated and put on ventilators. My grandmother is in the ICU still on and off sedation, relying heavily on the machine to help her breathe. She is in very critical condition. Fortunately, my father has since been discharged with the need to be on oxygen after being in the ICU. As for the house, it is a total loss. They did not have insurance so there will be no coverage for any of their belongings. My parents and grandmother will have to start their lives over from zero. With their ages, health conditions, and being displaced without a home, it will be an extremely hard task. So I am asking for help from friends, family, community to make it a little easier on this long road they have ahead. I’m hoping to raise money to help with any financial burdens they may face, food & things they need, and gas since my mother will be traveling back and forth to Indianapolis for our grandmother. A donation or share would be greatly appreciated. Anything helps. Thank you. -Jade (granddaughter & daughter of Dory, Amy & Phil)
