Help us put 5 more teens through drivers ed! H, V, A, J, and U* come from immigrant families from Central America who now live in Kitsap county. Each of them speaks at least two languages, some of them three! They are smart kids who will make great drivers, but the full cost of Drivers Ed is beyond their parents’ means. Why is it so important for these teens to get to do drivers ed? - They will be able to get their driver licenses sooner (at 16 instead of 18) - They will be safer on the road, protecting themselves, their passengers, and the rest of us - They will be able to transport their parents and siblings to appointments, the grocery store, church, etc; some of their parents do not have a driver license due to language and literacy barriers. These teens are multilingual and have had education opportunities their parents did not get, enabling them to participate in a class like this. They already help their families in many ways – interpreting for day-to-day needs, navigating the bus system or calling a taxi for a parent with limited English, getting up early to pack their dad’s lunch, babysitting their younger siblings after school. They need to be able to drive asap to help their families in the ways they want and need to. - They will have the pride and independence that comes with this rite of passage - They will have access to more job opportunities now and in the future We need to raise $2,470 for all five of these teens to get to do the class. Each family is contributing what they can – from $150 to $200 depending on their circumstances. But the class and testing is $680-700 (depending on location)!! Please donate what you can and share with your friends! All funds donated will go directly to the cost of the class for H, V, A, J, and U*. Thank you!! *using initials only for privacy Note: We have collectively put 8 immigrant teens through drivers ed to date through these fundraisers!! And we see the impact it’s having in their lives - employment, pride, increased safety, help for their parents- it’s a big deal. Thank you to everyone who has helped us make it happen before. Let’s do it again!
