Hi, my name is Dana, and I'm fundraising for my sister and her family - Nadine (sister), Mike (brother-in-law), Keegan (nephew, 10), and Nora (niece, 7). They could truly use a saving grace, to say the absolute least. Sadie is a radiantly loving, cheery, and tremendously goofy character that my sister's family was lucky enough to cross paths with. The stars truly felt like they were starting to align after their 12 y/o family dog/Keegan’s absolute love in life, Calvin (choc lab/g-shep mix), needed to be put to sleep due to cancer. Calvin was fantastic with both kids, but he was without a doubt Keegan’s guardian angel - attached to Nadine’s hip and belly throughout her entire pregnancy, which was just the start to their beautiful journey together, just a boy and his best pal. In a nutshell, their bond only grew closer as the two aged together. As we all know, a dog’s life is already far too short - we just didn’t realize there were only going to be 12 years with Calvin – the family was completely sideswiped by the cancer diagnosis. The loss of Keegan’s best friend shattered him to no end – often finding him looking at the sky and asking somber questions. A glimpse of hope for Keegan fell into Nadine’s lap when she received a message about a Chocolate Lab puppy, soon to be named Sadie. Sadie has been the energy and zest in life that makes Keegan excited to get up every single morning. She is hilarious and will put a smile on anyone’s face; all you need to do is look in her direction and she’s guaranteed to do something weird or silly. While Keegan is still heartbroken about Calvin, he truly believes he sent Sadie to take care of the family and that brings Keegan immense peace through the loss. Sadie girl has now been in the family for 2.5 years. The story takes a tragic turn, when this past Sunday, Sadie was run over by a pickup truck. She is in critical condition and will be under veterinary supervision until further notice. With a fractured pelvis in 4 places and 2 dislocated hips, Sadie is unable to walk and is in constant pain. She’s been unable to urinate since the accident, which is resulting in tests being run to hopefully factor out severe bladder complications. She is on a fluid drip, various pain medications, receiving multiple X-rays in case the fractures worsen due to their location, etc. Once she is out of the Emergency Vet, she will have follow-up therapy to help her bones and joints heal properly. Sadie is still at the Emergency Vet, which is about an hour away because they were the only place open at the time. Upon arrival, the facility wanted $1,500 to get Sadie settled in. Today, after 2 days, Nadine was billed another $4,500, totaling a cost of $6K thus far in medical expenses, not including the surgery she needs, future stays/medicines, and therapy after the fact. Nadine and Mike are incredibly hard workers and try their absolute best to make the kids happy. They’re already working as much as possible to pay off past medical bills from tragic accidents that they each endured a few years ago, at different times. Nadine & Mike were both Life Starred, about a year apart from one another. Both are lucky to have their lives, but unfortunately, med flight isn’t cheap especially x2. As mentioned at the beginning of this, they could truly use a saving grace. Our family would be forever grateful and truly honored to receive any amount you may be able to share. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of my family, for taking the time to read our story.
