Ed grew up in Chicago-Alison in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After college, both found their way to the Twin Cities in the early 90’s. They met playing volleyball. He was attracted to her smile- her to his sense of humor. Ten months later they married. She taught English to at-risk youth, and he worked for Nikon as a field service technician. 30 years later they celebrated their pearl anniversary and their 17-year-old daughter, Josie’s, birthday. In another life, Alison was probably a cowboy. Her love for horses and nature, and her wild imagination, are all expressions of this. One evening in 2024, Alison was sleeping in the comfort of her home and she was dreaming of a woman beckoning her into a portal. As she dove in head first, her physical body followed and she dove straight out of bed, hitting her head. Admitted to the hospital that evening, Alison and family were informed of a brain tumor. Today, no surgery or treatment is being undertaken. We believe her strong connection and love for her family keep the tumor at bay. As Tim McGraw says in “The Cowboy in Me”: You set your mind to see this love on through I guess that's just the cowboy in you We ride and never worry about the fall I guess that's just the cowboy in us all Ed is a gifted runner. He’s ran 20 marathons (26.2 miles) and qualified for the Boston marathon four times. Presently, he finds himself sidelined. Walking and stairs are a challenge, and he is currently unable to work or ride a bike. Ed fell on the ice on March 17th, 2024 and completely ruptured his right knee's quadricep tendon and side tendons. This required immediate surgery. Months later he is fighting his way back through physical therapy, but his recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease is unfortunately slowing down the healing process. The 6+ months of disability has contributed only a portion of his usual income to support the family. Ed, Alison, and Josie LOVE the Park Tavern and consider the staff family. As a family-oriented business, the people of PT are organizing a gathering in support of the family. Please join us on Sunday, August 20th from 11-4 at the Park Tavern to raise funds and spirits after a journey of hardship. FACEBOOK EVENT LINK The funds raised will be used to support the family's medical bills and recover lost income that is not covered through Ed's 6+ months of disability. Your donations, in any amount, are deeply appreciated!
