On Friday July 14th our friends, Lynne & Kannan, had the last “nice evening out” they will get for far too long. They came home to fire trucks and gawkers around their building. Their dogs, Asha & Naupaka, were still upstairs. It took the firefighters forty-five minutes to get them reunited. Fortunately, despite being wet and terrified, they were unhurt. Their home, not so much. The landlord was installing a cell tower on the roof which seems to be the reason the fire started and the damange's contined inside their bedroom apartment. Their home is uninhabitable. Most of their possessions were destroyed. Lynne is an artist and has a show in October. Some of her work was recovered; she won’t be starting from scratch. Regardless, it is not a good time to be nomadic. The Red Cross, as wonderful as they are, was only able to provide two nights in a hotel. Kannan is a proud SAG card holder. Despite what they are going through, he would never consider crossing a picket line. It’s not a good time to be a nomad. We love our friends. We love seeing Asha & Naupaka enjoying off leash hours. We hate what a fire outside their apartment has done to their stability. As a community we have gathered around them. We can only do so much without help from you, members of a dog community like ours or not. Lynne & Kannan need help turning a roof for the night, into a place to stay while their building is repaired. They need your help repairing their apartment and recreating a home. They need your help to be able to get the time-of-day from an attorney. We need your help, because we want to lift some of this thousand-pound-weight off of our friends’ shoulders. Thank you for reading. Thank you for any burden you can lessen from the toil of the loved Lynne & Kannan, dog parents to the beloved Asha & Naupaka.
