A dear friend of the Emunah Project is in an impossible situation and we are determined to help her, with HaShem’s and your help. Devorah, a woman in her 50’s, is divorced, crippled, and is bound to a wheelchair. She is being minimally supported by Social Security and other government funds, and has no personal income whatsoever. From an early age she had severe arthritis, and the inflammation of her joints has forced her to be in a wheelchair since the age of 17. With help from heaven, she has been supported by friendly young women who come to nurse and support her in her house, helping her with all the cooking and cleaning that she is unable to do on her own. While she has been blessed to get this far, she is now truly needing some financial assistance to help sustain her and be sure that she can afford the support she needs, without having to depend on favors. We are asking you to open your hearts and do a great mitzvah by doing Chesed (Acts of Loving Kindness) by this dear woman, and help her from falling into shame or despair over her situation of needing to rely on others. Helping this woman enables her to live in dignity and confidence. As written in the Torah, when barriers are eliminated, many Jews with disabilities find warmth, welcome and a sense of belonging to their Jewish community. As Torah teaches us, “You shall not insult the deaf, or place a stumbling block before the blind (Leviticus 19:14).” Jewish tradition teaches us of our obligation to ensure equal access for all people and to help facilitate the full participation of individuals with disabilities in religious and public life. We are taught “Do not separate yourself from the community” (Pirkei Avot 2:5); accordingly, we must prevent anyone from being separated against their will. Help us to help this woman in her true and real need today by donating what you can to help us reach our goal.
