Hi, my name is Rhoda McLure. Some of you may know that my husband, Paul and I own and operate a small Dairy Farm in Johnson, VT. Farming is a good life, but far from easy; especially lately. Farmers are often taken for granted, even though their livelihood provides food, and jobs for so many people. It is difficult in a good year, but especially when the milk price is low, and the cost to operate is high, like now. We are Agrimark members (which is the co-op that owns Cabot Cheese). Lately, everything they do is to help the co-op's bottom line and hurts the farmers whose backs they stand on. They continue to take more and more out of our already scarce milk check. It is so disheartening. On top of this day-to-day farming stuff, last year a wind storm took out one of our coverall barns and damaged equipment underneath. Then, this week we were hit with heavy rains causing widespread flooding across the state of VT. Our farm was hit hard! We lost about 90% of our corn crop (about $100,000), and our house was flooded into the first floor causing damage to our fuel tank, hot water heater, structural damage on the house, ruined carpets, and property damage. I am not one to ask for assistance often. We trust in God, work hard and try to help others. However, this is devastating. I know, so many people are hurting from this flood right now, however, I feel that I need to put our needs out there. Money raised will go for house repairs, barn repairs, and feeding our animals so that we can continue to produce high-quality dairy products. Please consider helping us, and this Dairy Farm out. Thank you!
