We are asking for community support to cover the printing costs of the first issue of CRATER, an annual print film journal documenting underground cinema in New York. Anyone who donates $20 or more will receive a copy of the issue. Through interviews and photos, CRATER aims to create an archive of filmmaking and programming happening outside (and in opposition to) the non-profit, academic, and commercial establishments. Crater's focus is towards an emerging DIY and grassroots film culture that centers care and community, and expands access to cinema. The first issue of CRATER features interviews with the organizers behind several of these DIY programming initiatives, and a few other important community voices. Future issues will focus on filmmakers and films.
