The construction of the New Holy Family Chapel began in 2014 on the island of Dominica, in the Caribbean. It was necessary to construct a new chapel as the large growing community of Mahaut, and the surrounding communities of Belfast and Jimmit, worshipped in a small, dilapidated building constructed of timber floors and galvanized roofs, and its seating capacity became outgrown by the expansion of the communities. This building was formerly used as a community center for dances, movies and other community events. However, this building was completely destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017, and the elderly and children have been deprived of attending mass since then. To date, three phases of the project have been completed at a cost of US$600,000.00 made possible by the efforts and contributions of parishioners and other kind contributors. However, there is much more to be done. Namely the erection of the roof steel frame (already purchased), the roof covering, ceiling, windows and doors as well as electricals, plumbing, sanitary installation and furnishings. As expected, construction works were delayed from a lack of funds, Hurricane Maria in 2017, and the Covid-19 pandemic. It has not been an easy project to complete but we are determined to finalize our dream. The new chapel will provide a sacred space for the people of God, conducive to a true Christian workshop and a space where the faith can be imparted to children, youth, and adults alike. We want to continue preaching the gospel in keeping with the mission of Christ and the church. We therefore need your help in raising funds to complete this project. Any monetary contribution you can provide will be greatly appreciated by the people of Mahaut and its surrounding villages. We assure good stewardship of the funds being provided and serve to live out the call of the Redemptorists to serve the poor and helpless so they can experience the love of God. Please help us reach our goal of $100,000.00. We sincerely thank you! May God bless you and your families with abundance.
