Please read ‘til the end. Calling All Friends & The 2,000 Children of Dr Jian Feng Li, I have known Dr Jian Feng Li for about 6 years now. I am one of the thousands of interns whom he has trained in Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine over a career that has spanned more than 30 years. I am honored to call him my teacher, and privileged to call him my friend. During this time, I have learned that Dr Li is a very knowledgeable and skilled practitioner of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine. In fact, he has treated my mother, my husband, and myself among many tens of thousands of patients. The first time my mother came into Emperor’s College Acupuncture Clinic to see Dr Li and I, she came in a wheelchair. However, after just one treatment by Dr Li and I using scalp, abdominal and body acupuncture; my mother was able to walk out of the clinic with her own two legs, and she felt the solid earth while walking under her own two feet again. Not only did my mother regain her mobility, but Dr Li’s confidence and ability to treat my mother also relieved us of any uncertainty, anxiety, and fear that may have otherwise occurred. During my second quarter in the clinic, Dr Li taught me how to treat glaucoma in my husband by inserting 28 gauge 3-cun needles along the belly of both Sternocleidomastoid Muscles in the neck, and fan them to decrease stress and pressure to his eyes. The pressure in my husband’s eyes are stable to this day; and I became a more confident, brave, and experienced practitioner in training that day. I myself have been treated by Dr Li and one of his most promising interns for low back pain due to carrying a heavy back-pack and 8-hour shifts in the clinic. After the first treatment, the pain was gone within 15 minutes. The pain came back at a level 1 or 2 out of 10, understandably, after long days of work at the clinic again. After the second acupuncture treatment a week later, a little Tiger Balm muscle rub does the trick whenever the low back pain comes back occasionally. I experienced what the patients experience when Dr Li finds aishi points with his capable hands to treat pain. ‘Ouch!’ Dr Li and his interns have provided much relief from pain; illness; and uncertainty, anxiety, and fear that may come along with illness, and not knowing what to do or who to turn to, until they meet Dr Li. Under the tutelage of Dr Li, I have grown to become a braver, more confident, knowledgeable and skilled practitioner of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine. I look forward to my promising future and opportunities to become a teacher and a healer to the masses myself. All because along the way, there have been many who have helped me with my hard work and aspirations. I am stronger because I am standing on the shoulders of those who have walked the path before me and shown me the way. In my last quarter here at Emperor’s College Master of Acupuncture & Traditional Oriental Medicine program, I look back at all those who I am grateful and indebted to, including professors, clinical supervisors, technical supervisors, clinic staff, administrators, fellow classmates, family, friends, and the patients themselves. However, one person stands out the most at this time. This person is Dr Jian Feng Li. In these almost six years, I have known Dr Li to possess deep knowledge, (mad) skills, and broad experience in the area of Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine that he so generously shares with others. His nature is that of a peaceful man; he has great humility in his character, compassion in his heart, an understanding in his mind, and a quiet strength. Most important of all, Dr Li is a good person. I believe that it is because of his great humility and quiet strength that he will not ask for help or accept help when offered directly; rather, choosing to take care of himself and those he loves as best as he can quietly, alone, without wanting to inconvenience anyone. Such is the habit of so many givers and healers. However, we cannot pour from an empty or almost empty cup; and one person alone can only shoulder so much, especially at those times when people say, "When it rains, it pours." Life is full of ups and downs. If you have come this far, I hope that you can reflect and remember someone who has helped you to get to where you are. I hope that you are in better circumstances today than you were yesterday. Maybe you are one of the two-thousand children whom Dr Li has endearingly said that he has from his time teaching, practicing and sharing his knowledge and skills for over 30 years and as a full-time clinical supervisor at Emperor’s College. He has been a steadfast and constant figure at Emperor’s College Acupuncture Clinic, and an important contributor to the success of its students as a result. I hope that he is as endearing to your heart as he is to mine. I am asking for your assistance to help Dr Li and his family. It is with consideration for his and his family’s privacy that I do not divulge too much information. Meditate, and if this man has helped you in any way, this is a good time to repay him. May your kindness and generosity return to you a thousand-fold. Thank you! PS. Please forgive me for any omissions, misinterpretations, or misunderstandings. It is only with much consideration and good intentions that I have come forth with this plea. I would like to offer a resource: Dana: The Practice of Giving selected essays edited by Bhikkhu Bodhi https://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/various/wheel367.html Thank you for your trust and care!
