Next Saturday on the 29th of July, a group of us are doing the Brighton Pier Open Water Swim; 1.2km around the pier in (hopefully) some calmer, warmer conditions. What started as a bit of fun also offered the opportunity to raise a bit of money for an incredibly important charity, Andy’s Man Club. This suicide-prevention charity offers free in-person & online support groups for men across the UK who are struggling with their mental health. Every Monday, over 700 groups across the country meet to provide that much-needed support and safe space to speak. We’re currently living in a mental health crisis with suicide rates continuing to increase. It impacts everyone, but amongst men it is the biggest killer under 45, with 1 man taking his own life every two hours in the UK. Last December, I lost my cousin David, a few weeks after his twentieth birthday, to suicide. He was so kind and brilliant, had so much going for him, and family & friends who loved him dearly, but sadly he lost his battle with depression. He is missed every day and we want to make sure we’re spreading awareness and doing all we can to ensure this pain & suffering stops, for the individuals struggling and the families and friends that are left behind. Any donations would be kindly welcomed, even the couple £s spent on your morning coffee. But more importantly, we’d love for you to use this as a reminder to check in on those around you. This is for Dave and all the other Daves out there. Thanks
