So about two days ago I noticed a change in my dog Bella's behavior. She's a 2 year old Staffordshire terrier mix, I rescued from Missisippi. She's a little high energy, snuggly, fur rocket and the most food motivated little pup you could ever find. All the sudden after coming home from a hike I noticed something different about her. She was extremely lethargic, wouldn't eat, and was sleeping all day. Despite my best efforts I couldn't get her to eat. So my friend Ruth and I decided to take her to the emergency vet. They told us it was probably an infection caused from a tick bite. Sent her home antibiotics and some other medication. Still this continues. The next day I received a call from my brother leaving work that her breathing had become erratic, couldn't keep her head up and I needed to get home. She was barely breathing so we rushed her off to the emergency vet yet again where she was diagnosed with Addison's disease. Addison’s disease in dogs (also called hypoadrenocorticism) occurs when your dog’s adrenal glands aren’t producing adequate levels of corticosteroid hormones. If diagnosed and treated appropriately these dogs can live. Bella's been brought to Tufts in Grafton for 24 hour monitoring. Anyone who's been through this knows it's not a cheap endeavor in anyway shape or form. I was raised to never ask for help. But I will go to the end of the earth for my dog. She's my everything. I ask for your help in with anything to help chip away at a lot of bills. Anyone who knows me I'd gladly trade my life for hers but unfortunately I can't. Anything is appreciated to help bring my baby home.
