Hi, my name is Bushra Masood Khan - one of the 4 siblings including my baby brother, Adil Masood Khan. Adil has been my best friend since the time he was born and it's fair to say that I am not capable of loving someone as much as I loved him. In losing him to Allah’s will in the year 2024, I lost the largest piece of my heart, and the light of our family. Adil was many things, a good brother, a caring son, singularly gifted with his talent to light up the lives of those he loved, with his humor, effort, concern and care, and most prominently, a budding feminist. As he always remained the wind under his sister's wings, we often talked about our shared belief that women, when given the opportunity, can truly change the world. And to that end, he showed up where he could and contributed to the cause where he was able to. Before us sisters, Adil started marching at Aurat March, inspiring the rest of us to follow. Had he been with us today, Adil would want to do more - even in his absence, I can still feel his passion to contribute to making this world a more equitable place for all, especially women. To keep my brother’s memory alive and to continue the good work I saw him work towards so earnestly, I am setting up the ‘Adil Masood Scholarship’ with ‘Ilm-Un-Nisa’ Institute. It is through carrying his passion forward that our family wants to continue to love my baby brother. Based in Karachi, Pakistan, the institute has recently acquired a dedicated center aimed at empowering women through various skill development programs, including but not limited to Web Designing, Advanced Tailoring, Graphic Designing, English Language, and Fashion Designing. To date, their efforts have resulted in the successful training of over 1800 women, with a current cohort of 100+ women actively participating in the training programs. Notably, the institute takes great pride in its alumni, with more than 80 Ilm Un Nisa graduates now self-employed, 45+ running their own small businesses, and an impressive count of over 850 women successfully integrated into the workforce as teachers, beauticians, administrators, and other valuable roles. The institute's commitment to women's empowerment has made a remarkable impact on the lives of these individuals and the community at large. I am hopeful of your valuable support in establishing this scholarship initiative. Even the smallest contribution will have a significant impact. With your generosity and encouragement, I aspire to sustain this scholarship program on an annual basis. Your continued support and kindness will enable us to provide opportunities for deserving individuals year after year.
