Want to join me in making a difference? We are raising money to benefit Addor Community Center Inc, and any donation will help make an impact! The Lincoln Park School, built in 1922, served for 27 years as an African-American elementary school (and also briefly as a high school) and community center for the rural population located in the Addor vicinity. The school was one of 16 Rosenwald schools built in Moore County by Julius Rosenwald at the behest of Booker T. Washington in an act to improve education for African Americans in the rural South. The Lincoln Park School was decommissioned in 1949 and became the Addor Community Center in 1952. By 2006, at the end of a series of renovations spanning decades, the building was a fully functional center with computers, a library and a kitchen. It was a rental space for family reunions or worship services. The decline in community involvement occurred in 2009. Plans of restoring a community atmosphere emerged in 2015 with a new board being formed but little activity within the community center had been made. Here we are in 2024 facing some major renovations and we need your help! We are sending out an SOS! We are in dire need of funding to restore this historical building. Serious weather damage has deteriorated a great portion of the building. The roof is beginning to fall in amid other aging properties. The center received a grant for $758,690 from the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) administered by the National Park Service and an additional $5,000 grant from Brownson Memorial Church in 2024. Administrative fees are deducted from this amount which leaves us with a significant shortage. This community center houses so much of our history, special memories, and overall tells a story of perseverance, endurance, and tenacity. Our ancestors and prior community leaders worked hard to maintain the integrity of the building, what a tragedy to let it wither away. These funds will be going towards restoring the foundation, walls, exterior stairs, shelling, floor construction, landscaping, roofing, and miscellaneous endeavors. To go along with our efforts in reaching our financial goal, we've conducted a fundraising plan in hopes of exceeding our goal. (All information can be found on our FB and IG: Addor Community Center) Our ventures lie in restoring this building to a functional community hub that hosts events, provides after-school programs, boy/girl scouts, at-risk youth programs, amongst operating as a rental space. No donation is too small! Anything counts! Please share with everyone you know! Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us! #BetterTogether #AddorCommunityCenter #RosenwaldSchools #HistoricPreservation
