Hi, I'm Megan and my sister-in-law Katie has been left homeless with her dog Luke due to a fire. An amazing human, Katie Groome, needs our help! On Saturday, July 15th a fire started a little after 1 pm in a neighboring building and spread to her home. It took crews from multiple departments about five hours to get the fire completely under control, as the heat and wind made it difficult for the firefighters to both control and treat the fire. Amid the chaos, and accompanied by a firefighter, Katie was allowed into her water-soaked apartment to quickly collect a few items before the building became uninhabitable. Katie, covered in soot and ash, had minutes before the carbon monoxide detector went off and they had to evacuate the building. This trip rendered the only shoes she now owns waterlogged from the efforts to salvage a few items. If you know Katie, you know that she has the biggest heart. She's the first one to call and check in when life goes sideways and she'd do anything for the people that she loves. Now, she and her dog, Luke, are displaced and have nothing.
