For the first time in the 65+ years history of the Greater Manassas Baseball League (GMBL), a team of 15-17 year-old boys are Southeast Region Champions and will be going to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Missouri. This team of All-stars was selected from the GMBL Babe Ruth spring recreation league. On July 8th, they won the area tournament and earned the right to represent GMBL in the Virginia State Games. On July 17th they won the State Tournament in Lawrenceville, VA and solidified their place in the Southeast Regional Tournament. On July 30th, under the soaring heat and humidity, the boys from Manassas would not be denied. The GMBL All-Star team won the Southeast Regional Championship by a score of 1-0, with the grit and toughness of true champions. With this win the Manassas GMBL All-star team has earned the right to represent the Southeast Region in the Senior Babe Ruth World Series; and will be facing teams from across the United States, as well as, Aruba, Australia, Canada, China, Taiwan – so this will truly be a World Series in every sense. The games are being held in Cape Girardeau, MO. The boys are representing, the Southeast Region, Virginia, and most importantly, Greater Manassas! We are asking for help from the community for transportation, hotel, meals, and other travel expenses. These boys are not part of a deeply funded Travel Baseball club, they are boys that play for their local High Schools (Brentsville District High School, Gainesville High School, Osbourn High School, Osbourn Park High School, and Patriot High School) and some playing just summer recreational baseball. This will be a once-in-life-time experience that is finally coming true for these boys. Any donation will help! We appreciate your support and do hope that you will tune in and cheer them on starting August 14!
