This is SW 33rd Drive. It’s a small patch of road -- maybe 100 yards long -- but it’s a very important bypass for folks traveling between the SW Boundary neighborhood and Dosch Road. Though hundreds of cars use this street as a shortcut every day, what many people don’t realize is that this thoroughfare is not maintained by the city of Portland, the County, or any other public entity. This part of SW 33rd Drive was originally a pot-hole-filled, rutted, dirty road that was muddy in the winter and incredibly dusty when it wasn’t raining. The only reason this passage is paved today is because one of these neighbors has such a severe case of asthma that flared up from the dust, they paid to have it done themselves. As you can see, it’s getting time to update the pavement, and, once again, the onus falls upon these neighbors to pay for it out of their own pockets. The cost to repave this stretch is about $20,000, and we’re hoping to raise half of that from the people who benefit from this being a smooth, accessible street that makes their commutes and errands safer and easier. If you’re one of those hundreds of people who’ve come to rely on this little street, please join us by making a donation to the 33rd Drive Paving Fund so that you – and your car – can have smooth sailing for years to come. Thank you.
