Hello Everyone!!! October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a month designed to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and to help “MAKE A DIFFERENCE”! I would like to take advantage of this opportunity to MAKE A DIFFERENCE this month for a very special person that has fallen victim to this disease. Patrice Yoder is a dear colleague and friend. Many of you may know or work with her, however, if you don’t, please keep reading and learn more about my beloved friend. Despite surviving both skin and thyroid cancer, breast cancer was especially tough for Patrice to come to terms with. For the 3rd time, she has to fight cancer! Patrice was diagnosed in February of 2015. In her search for the best care, she was recommended by Duke to seek treatment with the Cancer Treatment Centers of America. The nearest one that could immediately provide her with the therapy warranted was based out of Chicago. In her own words, she explained to me how great and courteous the staff treats her. Although she could not ask for a better process given her unfortunate circumstance, there are many emotional, physical and financial strains that burden her. Patrice’s treatment consists of chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Her chemo treatment alone landed her two visits to the ICU. Throughout her treatment she has had to pay a great deal of out-of-pocket cost (flights, Hotels, food and numerous medical expenses). In her effort to keep up with bills and expenses she has had to resort to selling her horses that she has birthed, raised, trained and placed in competitions. If you know Patrice, you know her horses are her pride and joy. For the horses that were not able to sell, she basically gave them away because she could no longer maintain the costs to keep them up. She has sold all of her valuable inheritance. Outside of what I have already shared, other extremes of her financial strain may be too personal. She has had very little assistance and I am hoping to change that today by reaching out….· To those of you who have probably seen her walking into work the very day after her chemo treatment· To those of you who know someone who knows her· To those of you who know what it is like to fight breast cancer· To those of you who would like to donate to a good cause· To those of you who may just be randomly reading this b/c it grabbed your attention· To those of you who care!!! For years Patrice has provided her selfless service through the Army and as a Nurse. It’s time for us to come together and GIVE BACK! Just think……….what if it were you or someone that you loved? Patrice is not very computer savvy so all of my efforts are being done with her knowing very little. My goal is to raise money to present to her this Christmas. She made a joke that all she wanted for Christmas was her hair back. While I may not be able to grow her hair I would like to contribute and make a positive difference in her situation. Thank you so much for your interest in Patrice’s story and I pray that you find it in your hearts to help “MAKE A DIFFERENCE”.
