Ivery D’Wayne Dorsey has been in a Texas prison for 17 years for a crime he did not commit. As an advocate for Ivery, I am raising funds on his behalf so that he can seek additional legal help to overturn this wrongful conviction. Ivery has been fortunate since February of this year to have a team of three undergraduate students from Princeton University and one Georgetown University law student who have done incredible re-investigative work. They are still helping even though they have graduated.  However, there is still more urgent and critical legal work to be done and that's why I have set up this GO FUND ME account. We need to find Ivery a bold lawyer who is not afraid to fight for his case. Additionally, since Ivery's case goes back to 1994, experts will be essential in providing their opinion and their fees are around $150 an hour. Examples of what this cost will cover, in addition to a report, are their plane fares, lodging and meals. If there is a new trial, the graduated students and the professors of the Making an Exoneree course, Marc Howard and Marty Tankleff, will be coming to Houston and their plane fares and lodging must also be taken care of. For seventeen years, Ivery has been taken away from his family, his community, and his two sons, shattering all of their lives. We know too well that when the father or mother compass is gone, serious emotional problems can occur. Even though the man who did the crime submitted a sworn affidavit of his confession, the Texas Dept. of Criminal Justice keeps ignoring this major piece of evidence. And we should ask, why is Ivery still locked up? "It all starts in the courtroom", Ivery told me. He pointed out that the elected officials, the court appointed attorney, the prosecutor and judge acted in collusion for a swift, dishonest conviction. But, before the courtroom, this is what usually happens on the streets of a low income Black community. The hateful racist vultures prey on young Black men. They eye their catch, swoop down and haul them off, fabricating their false story all the way to the jailhouse. Then in court, not knowing their full rights, these young men take a plea bargain because they can't afford a lawyer.  The National Registry of Exonerations stated, "As of August 8, 2024, listed were 3,200 defendants who were convicted of crimes in the United States and later exonerated because they were innocent. 53% were Black."    I hope that you will see that because Ivery is innocent, he must be released NOW! Blessings to all of you and many thanks! Please pass this on. It's been a long journey trying to learn the law and fight for my freedom, all while trying to afford legal representation. All my life has been a struggle for me. But one thing I can honestly say is: the hard times have only made me a fighter and a go-getter. They say what doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. So while fighting for my freedom, I created (Cell Therapy 101): my own way to keep my mind sharp and in Victory mode. That's where the shoe designs and music came from. Believe it or not, I was being rewarded by The Most Gracious for not settling for less. So no matter who doesn't believe in me, I’ve got to believe in myself if I expect anybody else to believe in me. I’ve written to Presidents, Judges, Attorneys, Journalists, Colleges, Governors, and all sorts of celebrities about my case. Some responded, but some didn't. But that hasn’t stopped me. Where I come from, a closed mouth won’t get fed, and that’s why I am reaching out to you now. Thank you all. I'm very grateful for this beautiful country, the beautiful people, and the way we stick our necks out for each other. That's what America is about: Love. Ivery Dorsey
