For those of you that have been following the story, Jason Wetmore was with family and friends on vacation scalloping out of Homosassa. On the last day of our family vacation, he was struck by another boat on July 6th. The speeding boat ran him over, stopped briefly and then took off again. There is still an ongoing investigation to locate the boat/driver/passengers. Any information may be relayed to FWC. Jason was immediately recovered and transported to a local trauma center. He spent nine days in the hospital and has had multiple surgeries. Now that he is home, he begins a long road to recovery. The bills have been mounting, considering he spent a long nine days in the hospital. Since both of his legs were injured, he is not able to walk for a projected 12 weeks, which ultimately means he is out of work for an undetermined amount of time at this moment. Now that he is adjusting to his home, he will require some specialty medical equipment during his rehabilitation. Family and friends have been helping with wheelchair ramps, and a hospital bed and various medical equipment as well as PT equipment. Several people have reached out asking how they can help. While Jason is strong and stubborn and hesitant to receive help, the bills are already stacking. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! If you cannot help monetarily, that is fine too, we ask for your prayers during his recovery. And again, any information leading to tracking down the person/people responsible should be forwarded to FWC. FWC encourages you to reach out. You can contact the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (888-404-3922). Alternatively, you can send a text message to 847411 (Tip411) with the keyword "FWC" and provide any relevant information. It's worth noting that tipsters may be eligible for a reward. This LFEBridge was created on Jason's behalf, but the payments will all go directly to him.
