The Williams’ have been in my life as long as I can remember. Five years ago I became a part of it. I inherited two loving in laws and many sibling in law’s. The eldest being Joanna. As all of John’s siblings did, Jo welcomed me with so much love. Joanna and her husband Aaron have committed their lives and service to the Solomon Islands. Selfishly we are glad to have them stateside for a time as we know their hearts belong to two different countries. More than that, they belong to the service of loving people and meeting them where they are. On a personal note, recently in the midst of her battle with breast cancer Jo has quite literally come along side of me in fighting to take my health back. With no expectations, no judgment, only love and encouragement. For the month of July she helped me feel more confident in my ability to push forward. Though some days the treatment kept her from being physically beside me, on those days she still reached out to check in. While SHE was fighting. For the month of August I will be adding to my previous goal of 1 mile to 1.5 miles a day. Each of those are in her honor. For her husband and children. While they gave me their permission to do this, they did not give me an amount. This starting goal is modest in light of the costs of continued chemo treatments and whatever else lies before them. Like most journeys, its one day, one step at a time. I ask that if you feel led, know that no amount is wasted. However, neither are prayers. I know that most of us just don’t have it in our means to do so. Each whisper or shout to our Lord is more valuable than any amount of money given. Pray for healing. For provision. For discernment for each doctor involved with care. For her children. Cheer Jo on as she continues to stay active and take care of her body. Set your own movement goal. Go for a walk “with” Jo and I. Take it one step at a time knowing, she’s doing the same. Though I can’t speak for her , I know she’d be thrilled to know you challenged yourself to take the first steps.
