Hello! We are sharing about Wade Hoops and his family during a time they need support. Wade was born with a brain malformation and his family was told to prepare for a difficult life. His loving parents have always advocated for him to live the happiest life possible. Unfortunately, his condition also means facing medical challenges, hospitalizations and more. He is about to face his biggest surgery to date. The upcoming surgery will be a spinal fusion from T2 to his pelvis. Wade has developed a 135° curve over the last couple of years due to neuromuscular scoliosis. The curve is affecting his breathing, digestion, and comfort. He’s expected to have a complicated recovery and will be admitted to the ICU at Children's Mercy for several days minimum following the surgery. We are praying for minimal complications due to his medical complexities. The surgery recovery time is at least six weeks. Both parents work full-time and would like to be able to stay in the hospital with Wade without stressing about the financial aspect of everything. Dad does not get PTO through his employer. Unforeseen illnesses that landed Wade in ICU earlier this year took up all of mom's (Dani's) sick days and PTO. The timing of the surgery cannot be delayed because Wade's gifted surgeon, Dr. Schwend, is retiring at the end of the year. In addition to supporting the Hoops family during this challenging time and uncertainty, they realize that they will need a wheelchair-accessible vehicle as transferring Wade in and out of his car seat has gotten very difficult and is presumed to increase in difficulty post-operatively. Having an accessible vehicle will give Wade the freedom and comfort of being able to join his two siblings on outings with his family. After consulting with United Access about options, the family is looking to raise enough funds for a conversion on a current vehicle, or towards a used vehicle already adapted that can accommodate needs. The price of these accommodations is unfortunately very high, and while the Hoops need assistance with this now, they are the kind of people who will pay it forward when they are able. The number one goal has always been, and will always be, to keep Wade happy and smiling. Those who know Wade know that his smile will melt your heart. He’s nonverbal, but his eyes and crooked little smile with one dimple can tell you without a doubt that he is full of joy! Wade is one happy boy who never complains, and he deserves to be as comfortable as possible. Thank you in advance for your prayers & donations for this awesome family, and for being a Warrior for Wade!
