Hey! I'm currently in my 5th year at university and hoping to become a paediatric surgeon one day! I live in a very small town near Simcoe, Ontario and I'm the first one of my family to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies. Recently, I've been presented with the amazing opportunity to go abroad on a Medical Internship in Kenya! All money raised is going towards this experience and must be submitted to the supporting company and travel agencies by November 30th, 2015. The departure date is not until mid-December, and I'll be (hopefully) spending the winter exam break in Africa. The total duration is 4 weeks. While there, I'll be working alongside medical professionals in local hospitals and medical facilities. I will also be doing outreach projects and visiting communities and promoting health locally. This project will give me a hands-on experience of the medical field and also the opportunity to help communities in need. Overall this could be an icredible adventure but it's also special to me because it is my first trip, ever. I've never been on a plane or experienced any travel at all. So to be given this chance to see another country and to be immersed in their culture is amazing. But on top of that, I get to help people and see all the wildlife Kenya has to offer. It's truly incredible. This will also help me in future academic endeavors by providing practical experience and will shape who I am as a doctor. I'm most excited about being able to help, in a way that feels like I'm making an immediate impact. I cannot begin to explain how appreciative I am for all the help in making this possible. It will really be a dream come true.
