I am a veteran who served in the RAF and my family unit is breaking down following abusive relationships, family court and housing issues. I require robust legal representation for a sensitive and complex family situation. Financial assistance towards legal representation in family court is my final hope; you are my final hope. Since becoming homeless in July of last year following the end of an abusive relationship, my children and I have been moved 5 times to date. One move in particular led to my two eldest children being temporarily put with their father, due to the accommodation provided not being suitable for my family. I have also been subjected to harassment, bullying and controlling and aggressive behaviour by members of council staff who are supposed to be there to protect and support me and my family. The opposite of this has happened in my case. I was originally placed in a temporary 1 bedroom flat in Kendal in July 2024. I stated this was unsuitable and I would not be able to get my children to their school in Carlisle. In September this was rectified and I moved into a 3 bedroom air bnb. I was there for a few months then had to leave for another air bnb in the nov/dec time. In the February 2024 the landlord of the air bnb wanted his property back and so I was then moved away from Carlisle again to the 1 bed flat in Kendal. This was unsuitable and led to the father of my two eldest children placing an application into family court again. (Most of 2024 was going through family court with both fathers of my children) This move to Kendal facilitated my abusers to go through court the second time to take my children away from me. The court was in agreement that it was unsuitable accommodation and temporarily moved my two girls, of whom I have always been primary carer of, to move to their fathers property. The movement of myself and my family from a 3 bed house in Carlisle to a 1 bed flat in Kendal was the catalyst of this terrible situation I now find myself in. I was then informed that I no longer could bid for three bed properties as my girls were not with me. My girls are not with me due to the accommodation that I was placed into by Westmorland and Furness council. This is also an interim order (which means temporary and short term) until I have found suitable accommodation for all three of my children. Instead of the council taking responsibility and accountability for this situation, I have been victim blamed, bullied, harassed and singled out and this has triggered a lot of my trauma related ptsd and anxiety. My mental health has declined rapidly and there has not been one person within the council and the team who has even acknowledged and accepted this. In addition to this, my past abuse does not seem to be of relevance going through family court and I am subjected to multiple applications filed by the fathers being granted, allowing and facilitating post separation abuse. It is a never ending negative cycle for myself and my children. I had had legally aided representation however the quality and consistency is just not there. This is my why to the go fund me page. My story is not something I ever wanted to put out there in the public domain. I feel like a failure to not only myself but my children. As a veteran I have had so much support from veteran charities since living through this, however financial help for legal issues is just not within their scope unfortunately. I have had to make peace with the fact my most intimate and personal details are being read by anyone and everyone. I just hope that my story is understood and taken within the context intended.
