The reason for our climb on Saturday 23rd September is for our loved ones some are still here battling this cause and some unfortunately are no longer here. Cancer in children is the least talked about as it is the unknown and we can not bare the thought of losing our children before us. The most common form of child cancer is Leukemia. At the cruel age of just 4, a very dear friend to my family lost his battle with cancer after several rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This is no age and he is still missed dearly by friends and family. Also, a very strong little girl who is only aged 6 is currently battling stage 4 cancer and undergoing chemotherapy every other day. These are the children who have been at the back of my mind and wanted to do the climb not only to show support but to raise awareness. Other people have also come forward with their stories which have been brilliant that there are so many loved ones that we are climbing for but also extremely heartbreaking that so many people are having to live with this horrible disease. It is not only children who can be diagnosed with leukemia there is no age limit. One of the most touching stories is the one below: "In June 2024 my sister-in-law was diagnosed with ALL (Acute lymphoblastic leukemia) an aggressive and fast form of Leukaemia. As this was during Covid she was in hospital by herself with no visitors allowed for 3 months. which she found extremely difficult; our only contact was via video calls whilst she was undergoing invasive treatment.. She had a stem cell transplant in December 2024 and is now nearly 3yrs in remission.. So, when I received the email regarding raising money for Leukemia Uk I knew instantly that I needed to take part to help raise much-needed funds" There are so many stories and experiences both with happy endings and not-so-happy endings. It is not just the patient that lives through this disease it is the family, friends and other support networks which also run the course alongside them. Together we climb to raise as much money as we possibly can to help this amazing cause which is so close to many of our hearts.
