8/28UPDATE from Ruby’s mom She's been moving a lot more the past few days, definitely purposeful movement! She's been doing big stretches with her whole body and lifting her head every now and again. Her lungs are getting clearer every day. The tracheostomy is scheduled for this Wednesday, 8/30/23, so as long as Dr. Burkhart agrees she is ready, and then they will proceed as scheduled. That will take about a weeks recovery, and then she will be able to start some of her therapy. Even if she's not woken up yet, they should still be able to do some things with her. 8/12-I went to see Ruby today and visited with her Mama. This girl is just so strong and still fighting! She has good and not so good days. Kids are resilient and Ruby-Doo is proof. She responded to pain today. She’s also breathing over her vent, but it will remain in place, as her condition and body aren’t ready just yet. This family has a very long road a head of them. Thank you all for all you have done! Please keep sharing and donating. #prayforruby UPDATE from Ruby’s mom: 8/10/23 “I actually got to look at her most recent scans compared to her first scan after the incident. The swelling itself is slightly decreased, but the actually damage is unchanged. Rubys experiencing new possible seizure like activity, the neurologist aren't sure if it's seizure or just her body reacting to the inflammation and overall damage. She is still breathing on her own! The ventilator is providing 25% oxygen and she's getting the rest herself.” Please consider giving to this family, as mom and day are unable to work. Of course they want to be with her every second of the day. No amount is too small. -Thank you all! -Tracy Shipp Original story: Ruby (9) and her sweet family have been through more in their lives than most of us could imagine. Please donate if you are able. Sharing is asked as well. Ruby’s mama sent this to me so i can help share her story. ”Ruby was born with aortic stenosis. She had her first surgery three days after birth on March 7th, 2014. She had her second open heart surgery in 2015, her 3rd in 2018, and 4th June of this year. Ruby has always been a strong girl, recovering so well from her operations while also being so positive going through it all. She has so much energy despite her condition. It doesn't stop her from being the sassy energetic girl she is. Unfortunately, after her last open heart, she had complications after being discharged and had to come back for what ended up being just repair work. While recovering in the CICU. Her body wasn't obsorbing the oxygen she was given. The decision was made to place the breathing tube (intubate) her again. In the process, Ruby went into cardiac arrest and was finally recesitated after 20 minutes of CPR. Multiple CT scans show she has global anoxic brain damage. We have yet to know her outcome as we are still in the hospital. Ruby is a fighter, though, a resilient little human.”
