I’d like to introduce you to my mom, Una Underwood. Her story began in December 2024 on the 2-mile island of Spanish Wells in the Bahamas after a visit with her doctor led to suspicion of something abnormal in one of her breasts. This led to her and my dad, Esdale, having to make several trips to Nassau where facilities were available to perform an MRI and later a biopsy which confirmed cancer. Her journey eventually led to Alabama where she was able to find the care that she needed. In March 2024 she had a mastectomy and from prior diagnosis, was expecting little to no treatment afterwards. During the surgery it was discovered that the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes, which resulted in the removal of 8 of them which tested positive for cancer. A PET scan was performed, and a regime was recommended for her stage 3 cancer which includes chemotherapy followed by radiation as short-term treatment, which is expected to conclude towards the end of the year. So far, my mom has had to be hospitalized twice since starting the treatments, one of which she was in ICU for a couple days. My parents have no insurance and funds are very limited. However, God has graciously placed people in their path that have greatly assisted them in getting to where they are. We are extremely grateful to all that have helped and are now asking for additional support that is very much needed to be able to continue this path to healing. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
