Solar-Powered Water Bore Hole Project Father Martin has spearheaded an ongoing charity project in Nigeria which helps provide free medical care for those who are unable to afford this essential requirement and basic need. The project is based in Umunomo Village, his childhood home, in the Eastern Region of Nigeria. Currently, Father Martin Onuoha delivers a free annual medical outreach mission (MOM) to over 1,000 patients and provides a series of clinics and outreach facilities for the region's community - from GP Consultation & Prescriptions to Eye Surgery, Minor Injuries & Health Check Ups - the Outreach Programme is a lifeline to this community and neighbouring villages, without which, hundreds would sadly go untreated and unseen. Father Martin is now looking to establish a more permanent healthcare solution in the region with the proposed development and build of a Health Education Facility / Clinic in Umunomo itself. The nearest, fairly reliable, Government-run, hospital is over 25 miles away and most cannot afford to attend to be treated both due to lack of transport and with up-front fees required. Father Martin believes everyone should be entitled to medical care, regardless of one’s financial situation, and as a result has been working tirelessly over the past few years to secure a site and develop a solution to solve this crisis. By operating and managing the Free Medical Outreach Mission each year, Father Martin has seen first-hand the need within this community for medical services and is dedicated to ameliorating the situation. The proposed Health Education Facility / Clinic would be developed in stages. A site has been secured and surveyed, and preliminary work is ongoing. To mark his 50th birthday and 22nd Anniversary, we would like to support Father Martin and his initiative by fundraising for the very essential Water Supply for this project and the surrounding village, with the plan to build a 40ft Water Tank Stand, drill a Bore Hole, and provide solar-powered electricity for the water system. Having received quotes, we are looking to raise £15,000 to cover this water supply costs, trusting we will find support for this worthwhile cause!
