Kia ora friends and whanau. As most of you beautiful people may be aware, Tyla recently experienced a spontaneous pneumothorax (collapsed lung). This was sudden, extremely frightening and intensely painful. Since her time in hospital, unfortunately, her lung hasn’t been cooperating and the pneumothorax has worsened. Tyla had an initial tube inserted for a chest drain, to draw air out from her chest to make room for the lung to inflate, but unfortunately this was unsuccessful. An additional tube was inserted, as a second attempt, this being unsuccessful too. This meant that Tyla needed to be transported to a different hospital to undergo surgery, called a pleurodesis, which is the final attempt in treating a recurrent collapsing lung. The surgery itself went without complications, and another tube has been inserted to drain blood from her chest. The tube will need to remain inserted for another 3 days before an X-ray will determine whether the surgery was successful in inflating her lung. The doctors are unable to give an exact timeframe for her recovery at this stage, but she has been told that once she is well enough to return home, she will be unable to work for a minimum of three weeks. Given her time spent in hospital already, this means that she will be at loss of wages for 5 weeks. Tyla’s main priority right now should be her physical recovery and becoming well, but the stress of having no income for a minimum of 5 weeks while all her bills remain, is causing her an immense amount of stress and worry. Wee felt the need to start this fundraiser to try to eliminate some stress from Tyla, so she can put all of her energy into getting herself well. Tyla herself has helped and fundraiser for causes she is passionate about, such as Lifeline and the mental health foundation over the years. And now it seems, Tyla has found herself in need of some support. We feel she is so deserving of it. We completely acknowledge that times are so tough for so many, so please only donate if you are able. If you are not able, it would mean the world to us, if you could support Tyla by sharing this link to fundraise to help Tyla on her recovery journey, back to being her happy and healthy self. Thank you so much for every message of support, she wants it to be known how overwhelmed with love she has felt the last week, being the toughest of her life so far. It doesn’t go unnoticed! Nga mihi nui, Sera (Tyla’s Aunty) and Gina (Tyla’s best friend)
