Hi, my name is Tiffany, and this is my first crowdfunding experience (I've donated to some, but never asked for donations). I'm fundraising for my little brother, Tom Widman ("Tommy" to me). Tommy was hit by a car on April 1, 2024, while walking to work. Worst April Fool's joke ever. He was rushed to the Denver-area trauma ICU with a multitude of injuries, and he remained in a coma in the ICU for two weeks. Tommy sustained injuries from his head to his toes. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, two broken shoulder blades, breaks and fractures to every rib, a fractured pelvis, a lacerated spleen, punctured lungs, and exposed fractures of the fibula and tibia on both legs. It's a complete miracle that he survived at all. The doctors declared Tommy "non-load-bearing" on all four appendages (meaning arms and legs) for months, so Tommy has been in a hospital or rehab center bed since April. He was finally declared "load-bearing" by the doctor last week, and so he has just begun the process of learning to walk again. It's been a very long road for him, but he's been remarkably patient and optimistic throughout. Now we're planning for his release from the rehab facility, and we're hoping it will be by the end of August. After he leaves the rehab facility, he will complete his healing at home. But, unfortunately, his resources have dwindled away to nothing over the past few months...which is why I'm setting up this fundraiser. The money raised here will help Tommy pay basic expenses during the time before he can return to work. This means rent, phone bill, groceries, medicine, and whatever equipment he'll need until he's fully healed: A wheelchair, walker, and possibly a temporary ramp for his home, depending on how the physical therapy goes. A lot of people have asked me to let them know if there's anything they could do to help. We're not really the type of family to ask for charity, so it's hard to put this fundraiser out there. But this is a way you can help. Tommy didn't deserve to get hit by a car, and he sure didn't deserve the life he's had to live these past few months. If possible, I'd love to make his re-entry into the world as smooth as possible. Removing the stress of his phone getting shut off, etc. Any little bit of help will be so appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read Tommy's story, and thank you for helping him re-launch into the world.
