Hi, my name is Marty and I am fundraising for Tim Johnson who, over the last 2-3 years, has been going through a series of cancer treatments. Tim has worked many years in the NDT industry and most of these years have been in pipeline inspection. Over the last 13 years, many people in the industry have had the opportunity to work with Tim. He is a dedicated employee who has a work ethic second to none and is a very close friend to many of us. These friendships have been forged over the years and it would be far more accurate to say that Tim has become family to us. 2 to 3 years ago Tim was diagnosed with a very rare cancer in the spine. The process was going to involve a very complicated surgery followed by radiation and a lengthy recovery time. Many would have given up hope before it had even started but Tim set his mind to the task of seeing it through and with his dedicated wife and companion Sandra, he met the battle head-on. After getting through the surgery, followed by radiation treatments, the doctors were successful at completely removing the cancer from his spine. All during his recovery time, he wanted to work and fish. Those of us who know Tim best are not sure if it's his favorite sport or an addiction, but we call it a sport as it sounds less dysfunctional. So to be clear, when Tim is not fishing or spending time with his best friend Sandra, he can be found sitting in an AUT Unit somewhere within the borders of North America inspecting pipeline welds. After the shortest recovery time possible, Tim wanted to go back to work. As Kamloops was within range of his home, he went to work there for a few months and continued his checkups to ensure he was cancer free. After being out at work for a couple of months, another spot of cancer was found on his spine. Tim had to leave work again and treatments were set up to do radiation on this new area on his lung. Several different types of chemo were used but were not successful at addressing this type of cancer. After one of his last treatments, Tim returned home. When he woke up one morning he was not able to speak. The CT Scan showed a 25mm brain tumor. He was taken back to Kelowna for radiation and following that, was moved to the hospital in Salmon Arm where he is spending his days surrounded by his wife, son, family and friends that come by to visit. Tim is like family to many of us and we love him like a brother. He is a fighter and no matter what the battle is in front of him, it never gets in the way of his optimism and humor. We stand beside him as his family and friends during this very difficult time, to offer any support we can. This has not only been a huge physical battle for him and his family but there have been huge financial strains during this time. We ask all those who have been blessed to be included as his friends or are fortunate enough to be his family, to stand beside and support him during these very trying times. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read this, and with great gratitude, we thank you for any support you can offer at this time. Please keep Tim and his family in your prayers. The funds raised will go directly to Tim's family to assist with the extensive medical costs incurred over the last few years.
