Hello! 4th of July is full of happy moments, memories, & grilling. The 4th is my family’s favorite holiday because of all the fun fireworks. Well, this year turn took a turn and left us traumatized. On Monday July 3rd, 2024 my father, Cesar Morales, was lighting off fireworks early in celebration of the holiday. He had lit a mortar and it ended up igniting early and blew up while still in his hand (his dominant hand). He was rushed to the hospital where he ended up losing 3 and a half fingers (thumb, index, middle, & half of ring finger) and his palm is badly mangled due to the blow. He also suffered burns on his chest, face, and stomach. He possibly has a year(s) long recovery ahead of him with future surgeries being highly likely. Along with PT and a complete change of motion and relearning how to do the simple things like writing, eating, and getting dressed on his own. My father is a very determined man and was always moving. If he wasn’t working, fixing something, in church, or helping one of my siblings and I with our problems it was hard to get him to sit and relax. He is a hard working man with his 20+ year craft being in heating and cooling, a job he enjoyed very much. He was very good at it too and always made sure his customers felt prioritized. Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage doctors say he may never be able to do his job again. This incident has taken a giant toll on our family as he is the sole caretaker of our family. My mother has been unable to work because of medical issues and herself having multiple life threatening surgeries over the years. She has an upcoming spinal surgery also. With him out of commission we really are at a loss at what to do, no matter what though, we will get through it as a family. We are a God-loving family and we are blessed it wasn’t worse than what it is. My dad also has no health insurance and is ineligible to get any. This means his medical bills right now are one of our biggest concerns. We also want to try to raise enough money to hopefully one day get him a prosthetic hand so he can get back to what his normal was. Anything that can be donated will be GREATLY appreciated and we are so grateful for everything. Thank you all. -The Morales Family
