Makena Jade Kashiwa was welcomed into the world by her parents, Erin Bertou and Mayukwa Kashiwa on 10/17/2015. This beautiful 5lb 5oz baby girl let out a single cry as she was placed into her mother's arms. The moment was fleeting, however, as the nurses quickly whisked Makena away for difficulty breathing. While working to get Makena stabilized, she sustained a collapsed lung. She was put on a ventilator. After a couple setbacks, the doctors decided to put her on life support and she is now stable but fighting for her life. Even though her heart and lungs are getting stronger, her kidney function has decreased. She is also septic. The doctors have no answers as to why this is happening. Now all we can do is wait. She is getting phenomenal care at the Golisano's Children Hospital in Rochester, NY. This baby girl is a fighter. She has beaten many odds but the long term is still daunting. She and her parents have a long road ahead of them. With that being said, would you please consider donating and helping them financially through this extremely difficult time? Mom and Dad are at the hospital around the clock and could use support for things like meals, gas, parking, bills etc. However, if you are not able to donate would you please pray for this family and the medical staff in charge of Makena's care?
