Hello everyone! We are Hidden City Fitness, a Vancouver-based community business, and we want to highlight a very special member, named Leo Sammarelli. We are here to ask you to take a moment out of your precious time to read his story and learn about why we’re here today. Leo is a Paralympian, who has qualified for the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy. Sammarelli is a former Italian Inter-Regional Champion and WBC Canadian Amateur National Lightweight Champion. He found his passion for boxing when he was just 15 years old while living in Italy, and pursued the sport after moving to Canada competing and dominating at the Provincials and Nationals. On March 13, 2017 – Leo’s trajectory to making boxing his livelihood hit a world-changing roadblock when a bullet pierced the eighth vertebra in his back and left him paralyzed. What most would face as a career-ending tragedy, Leo turned into an unbelievably inspiring story. He turned to his unwavering determination and entrusted his trained-athlete’s-instinct to focus on recovery, persevering that chapter in his story, and making history on his journey. Being stripped of his emotional outlet, he allowed his fiery motivation to take over and he allowed his mind to be challenged to get back into the ring ASAP. The experience of having this massive physical and emotional shift within him from being an able-bodied & high-performance athlete to an everyday wheelchair user, Leo persevered as a true leader, mentor and all-round inspiration by using an adaptive form of the sport to give him purpose as a Boxing Coach and Adaptive Athlete. Leo found a passion in wheelchair sports bringing him to classify for the Winter Olympics. We are here to raise funding to help kickstart his journey to the Olympics. All proceeds will go towards new equipment, medication, and transportation required. We are seeking sponsorships in the form of donations, prizes and cash prizes.
