Dear friends, family, and compassionate strangers: In the midst of the unprecedented challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2024, a remarkable family's story of faith, resilience, and love emerged. Meet Justine and Dalfred, two extraordinary individuals who have faced unimaginable hardships and emerged stronger than ever. Justine's journey began with the joyous anticipation of motherhood during a time of uncertainty. However, fate took an unexpected turn, and she found herself in a life-threatening situation. Spending five agonizing weeks in a medically induced coma, connected to an ECMO machine at the esteemed Mayo Clinic, her survival was nothing short of a miraculous Christmas blessing. The power of faith and the dedication of the medical team brought her back to her loved ones. During this challenging time, Justine's precious baby girl, Ava, came into the world, filling their lives with love and hope. However, Ava's journey had its unique challenges as she was born not breathing (episode called Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy) and a severe brain bleed, causing her to have Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, cortical visual impairments, and additional medical challenges that will require lifelong care and support. Justine and Dalfred have embraced this new path with grace and determination, ensuring Ava receives the love and care she deserves. As if their strength wasn't already remarkable, fate had more in store for this brave couple. Recently, they welcomed their second child, a courageous little fighter named Mateo. Born prematurely at just 33 weeks, 5 days, Mateo now finds himself bravely fighting in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), making strides each day towards eating on his own and growing. Throughout her pregnancy, Justine exhibited unwavering dedication, spending 50 days on bed rest to ensure Mateo's safe arrival into the world. With their children needing round-the-clock care, Justine and Dalfred have found themselves facing significant financial strain, as they have been unable to work and provide for their family as they once did. In the face of adversity, the power of faith and the memory of Justine's late father, Paul, provide the couple with the strength to carry on. Paul's spirit, now watching over them from heaven, fills their hearts with hope and resilience.
