TW: SA Hi my name is Shannon Marx and I am trying to raise one dollar for every mile that I complete this year on the Registers Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) for the Albuquerque SANE Collaborative. This non-profit foundation is a resource for victims of sexual assault. The SANE Collaborative offers multi-faceted care for victims of sexual assault 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for no cost. This care addresses emotional and medical needs of those in need. I specifically am raising money for this organization because one year ago, they helped me when I needed it. Last summer, I was a victim of rape by a stranger when I was driving support for my team on RAGBRAI, a bike ride across the state of Iowa. After it happened, I only confided in my dad and mom, who supported me until I could access the resources that I needed. When I got home from the trip, I was in need of emotional and physical care that the Albuquerque SANE Collaborative provided for me. At my lowest point my family, my friends, and this organization were there for me when I needed it most. Their counseling resource showed me that what happened to me was not my fault, and that I am a survivor. They provided an examination and created a case for my SA, and put it in my hands whether or not to submit the case. Looking back, the SANE Collaborative saved my life as it started my recovery process from the trauma that I endured. I would not be where I am today without them. Therefore, I want to give back to this organization so that they can continue to provide this resource for those who need it. I am participating in RAGBRAI this year, and I am riding every single mile. I am doing this to show that I am strong, and that what I went through will never define me. For each of the 500 miles that I will be pushing through, I want to raise $1. I will be participating in the race from July 22-29th and hope to raise this amount by the end. I would greatly appreciate your support and to raise awareness for this resource available to all. Thank you for supporting me and for listening to my story.
