A little back story for our girl, I would like you to meet our Sofie! She is our unbelievably strong "big little girl". When this amazing kid was born 17 years ago we found out that she was having seizures while still in the hospital. Two days old and our little girl was having seizures for some reason. Jess and I were terrified. After a trip to Randall Children's Hospital in the specialty pediatric transport ambulance, we found out our little girl had suffered a stroke in utero. Sofie's bleed in her brain was large enough to cause seizures that thankfully subsided after a short time on anti-seizure medicine, the damage was already done. After a week and a half in the NICU at Randall's, we got to bring our amazing little girl home on Christmas Eve 2005. After seeing more doctors and therapists than most people see in their lifetime, we were finally settling in for the long, unknown road ahead. With most traumatic brain injuries there are lots of unknowns. Despite Sofie having the best doctors and therapists around, they did not know what the future would hold for her. The day that we realized our kiddo may never walk or talk was very tough, to say the least. It took Jess and I quite some time as first-time parents to process this information and move forward. Once we knew the battle Sofie was going up against we settled in and went to work. Progress. That is it. That word means a lot to us. With the help of all the amazing speech, physical, and occupational therapists Sofie started making progress. Through many years and countless trips to the hospital and custom leg braces, our little girl made enough progress that she was walking and talking despite doctors telling us it may never happen. Progress. Most that meet Sofie are amazed to find out that she has struggled with Cerebral Palsy her whole life. She loves riding horses, running through the yard, jumping on the trampoline, cheerleading as a young girl, and her dance team at the high school. Sofie has kept a positive outlook and always works harder than others to try to be "normal". Current events, On Monday, July 24th, 2024, Sofie had another stroke. Sofie was working with a community outreach program helping those in need around the Sandy area. The supervisor noticed that she was acting differently, she was not able to talk and had limited use of her right arm. Her supervisor, knowing stroke symptoms, called an ambulance and got her on the road to Kaiser Sunnyside. Jess and I met her there shortly after she arrived. Sofie was nonverbal and very scared. The decision to intubate her was made and she was taken for imaging. Sofie had suffered a total of 4 aneurysms. This was all feeling way too familiar. Due to the pressure on her brain, the neurosurgeon at KSS had to place an intracranial drain and pressure monitor before transporting her to Randall Childrens Hospital. Sofie was transported in the same type of pediatric specialty transport as before to Randall's. After spending a week in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, four days sedated and on a ventilator, Sofie was in critical condition but started to make progress. She is now moved up to the rehabilitation floor and in stable condition. Every day is a struggle for my little girl, yet every day she makes small amounts of progress. Sofie will begin the next chapter of her stay at Randall's on Friday, August 4th when she begins a rigorous inpatient rehabilitation program lasting around 6-8 weeks. I know that Sofie will struggle, and I know that there will be hard times, but I also know that Sofie will prove to another round of doctors and therapists that she will not be held down! She is and will continue to make progress, and that is all that counts! We are asking for your support to get over this speed bump in life. Your donations will help to offset financial burdens such as unexpected medical bills, installing a walk-in shower, adaptive needs in the home, and travel expenses throughout her inpatient rehabilitation stay. We can't thank everyone enough for the amazing love, prayers, and support during this hard time. Thank you all for keeping us going! LET'S GO TEAM SOFIE! Sincerly, The Kimble Family
