As friends who love sweet Madilynn and the Powell family, we are raising funds to support Madilynn and James as she goes through a difficult journey of rehabilitation and recovery. On June 17, Madilynn was admitted to the hospital after having spent the week at our church’s student camp. Normally that would be one of her favorite weeks of the year, but this time she began suffering increasing nerve pain, weakness and numbness and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome. This is a very rare condition in which her immune system is attacking her nerves, causing discomfort and eventually leading to paralysis. Madilynn has been in ICU since June 23, when her breathing and swallowing became endangered. She was intubated for about a week until receiving a tracheostomy on June 29 to help her breathe. She is fighting hard with daily physical therapy but struggles with ongoing nerve tingling and feeling hot all the time due to autonomic dysreflexia, basically an overreaction in her nervous system that often happens as part of the GBS disease process. We don’t know how long this stage will endure, but when she is able to leave the hospital, her next step will be inpatient physical therapy. Please pray for her healing, for comfort and relief from her daily suffering, and for insurance to approve all the therapies she needs to recover. If you know Madilynn, you know one of the kindest and most thoughtful angels to ever walk this earth. This is our opportunity to support her and James as they face non-covered medical expenses, reduced earnings and numerous costs related to her recovery. Any amount is greatly appreciated to help sustain them during this difficult time. God bless you for helping!
