As many of our friends and family know, my mom Tammy (Mama T) has been diagnosed with Chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) which is a rare type of blood cancer. Tammy has been receiving chemo therapy and multiple blood transfusions for the past few months. I am extremely happy to announce that Tammy has a donor match for a stem cell transplant which is the only cure for CMML. The transplant has been scheduled for August 17th!!!However, the road ahead is going to be long, hard and expensive for Tammy. The transplant will take place in Calgary, where she will remain in hospital for minimum 4-6 weeks if everything goes well. After discharge she has to remain in Calgary for an additional 8-12 weeks in order to attend the hospital daily until her treatment is completed. In total Tammy will be in Calgary for 4-5 months. After discharged from the hospital she will be paying for all living expenses in Calgary as well at home in Medicine Hat for all her everyday bills and expenses . The medications required for the transplant and treatment are only partially covered even with her medication benefits. The last thing Tammy needs to worry about is finances during her fight against cancer so I’m hoping we can help lessen that burden for her!
