Dear friends,     As you may know, tens of thousands of Syrian refugees are crossing into the EU from Turkey. They are suffering from various injuries, infections, exposures and exhaustion, etc.  This is complicated by the recent increase in airstrikes from various countries, and the change of seasons. This particularly dire situation has unfolded over the past 4 years! They need our help!     I am traveling to Lesvos, Greece on November 14 to provide medical aid to the Syrian refugees. I am a medical doctor at the University of Washington, and have been participating in medical missions to underserved areas in the US and abroad for the past 20 years.      I'm asking for donations of medicines, equipment,  and money prior to my trip.  We are also accepting volunteers, particularly medical personnel who can speak Arabic.Anything helps. There are two ways to donate:1.   It can be tax deductible if you donate via the charity I have worked with for the past several years:(this can be earmarked for me if you wish)https://salaamculturalmuseum.wordpress.com2.   Donations given here via LFEBridge are also greatly appreciated and would go directly to me to purchase equipment for use on Lesvos (but are not tax deductible).     I am not one to ask for assistance, but my colleague convinced me that we would be much more effective if we collect generosity from people who don't have the time or resources to travel and help in person.     Please join me to alleviate one of the worst humanitarian crises in modern history. If you can't give at the moment- well wishes and positive thoughts are greatly appreciated.Cheers,NeilResponse to FAQ:      I'm specifically aiming to purchase defibrillators, and a portable vitals monitor for unstable patients. I'm basically going to be a walking ambulance.  In addition, we distribute lots of blankets and other basic needs that are easier and cheaper to buy in Greece, which has the added benefit of stimulating one of the less stable economies in Europe.Salaam Cultural museum is a non denominational and highly rated certified  501c3 charity -unique in structure that allows 100% of donations to go directly to aid.(Also they use Paypal which charges charities 2.2% commission- whereas LFEBridge takes 5%)I will be setting up a facebook page with pictures, updates, and more information  for those interested.
