Hello, my mom’s name is Sylvia Trevino and we, her children, are creating this LFEBridge to attempt to raise money for both our sister Ruby Trevino (Donor) and our mother Sylvia Trevino (recipient) for medical expenses, traveling and lodging expenses. On July 11th, 2024, on the first day of our vacation in San Antonio TX, our mom got what we believed, at the time, to be Bell's Palsy. After multiple tests were run by the doctors, Sylvia was diagnosed with ESRD (end stage renal disease aka stage 5 kidney disease). During her stay at the hospital, she had limited contact with all of us and underwent dialysis everyday that would drain her of the energy she had. While in the hospital, our mom also had a nephrostomy procedure to attempt to drain the kidneys and attempt to get the kidneys functioning. Sadly, the kidneys did not function. She received 2 blood transfusions due to her low blood count because of her anemia and was undergoing dialysis everyday to clean her body of toxins that had built up over time. During that time, doctors were constantly monitoring her in order to make a decision on whether dialysis is temporary or permanent. One thing stayed consistent through all this, she NEEDED a kidney transplant. My dad and oldest sister Ruby stepped up during this time, but my dad was not able to donate. My sister was a great candidate according to the doctors, but my parents were uneducated in the effects that the donor may experience and the resources for donors, so they pushed the thought off as they were scared Ruby could become very ill. From that time ‘til now, our mom Sylvia has been on a dialysis machine everyday for 9 and a half hours in order to survive. Everything she does revolves around when she will connect and disconnect from her machine. Apart from having to think about connecting to her dialysis machine, she must also constantly be ordering her life sustaining treatments. If our mom misses a single day, she can get extremely sick and fill her body with toxins. Sylvia has been able to get on the transplant list for San Antonio, Galveston, and Houston. Because of joining these lists, Sylvia has needed constant trips to these locations to see doctors, surgeons, blood work, tests, check ups, and a handful of procedures and surgeries. Sometimes Sylvia must make these trips from Brownsville TX, to these locations, 1-2 times a month for 3 days at a time. Our parents have been making these trips for almost 2 years now. These trips can cost several hundreds of dollars just to go and come back. Recently though, in the month of April, Ruby began the process for living donor evaluation. Since then, she has been doing lab tests, urine tests, a lot of back and forth calls and emails with the transplant center and their coordinator. She had been getting the greenlights and passing all health exams, and finally the biggest test of all came. Traveling to San Antonio Transplant Institute, on June 12th, to meet their coordinator and do a physical all body health exam for both Ruby and our mom Sylvia. Then, on June 26th 2024, at 3:29pm, they got the call that they are a 100% match and now have a surgery date scheduled for August 25th. Many things will be stressing all of us as a family out, especially making sure Sylvia & Ruby maintain good health, have enough to eat, and have a good place to heal in the 1-3 months they are up there. Our dad will be away from work and Ruby will have to step away from work and need to step away from college in person, and be fully online & pay her tuition. We are making this LFEBridge in an effort to help take this major stress off their shoulders. We also ask for your prayers that all may go well during surgery and recovery.
