Update 7/31: Thank you to all who have supported and donated to Molly so far. Due to an unfortunate scheduling error at the hospital, Molly’s surgery has been delayed. We will continue to keep you posted As Molly heads in for surgery this Monday, July 31, 2024, we wanted to bring people together to encourage and support the Lyda Family. As many of you know, Molly spiked a fever at 18 days old and was urgently admitted to the hospital for tests and observation. Doctors eventually found a large mass in her brain and operated on their 22 day old baby. The mass was only partially resected and the family was told it appeared to be an especially malignant tumor and that there was nothing more to be done. She would live for no more than a couple more months. After several anxious days, many prayers, and careful review by other experts in the field, it was determined not to be cancer, and the thinking shifted to other possible explanations, including a hemorrhagic mass caused by a perinatal stroke. They were overjoyed it was no longer a terminal diagnosis, but also uncertain about the future. One unforeseen outcome has been her ongoing battle with seizures from epilepsy which emerged later and have recently become treatment resistant. Molly will soon be a teenager (13!) and loves being in school with her friends. Her favorite activities include art (coloring) and card games. She plays the piano and basketball, and has also enjoyed dance and gymnastics. Molly has bravely persevered through countless doctor appointments and medical procedures, as well as numerous medication changes with various side effects. On Monday surgeons will go in and remove (resect) more scarred and injured brain tissue, believing this will bring some relief from the almost continuous barrage of seizures she has experienced the last year. All funds donated will go to the Lyda family to help cover ongoing medical expenses and mental health resources, and to help Keri and Paul more fully support Molly—and her sisters!— following surgery as Molly recovers and returns to a full and active life.
