Dear friends, colleagues and admirers of Lawrence (Larry) Kornfeld, We hope this message finds you well. As Larry's godchildren, we are reaching out to you, seeking support for him during this challenging time. Larry entered hospice on June 30th after being hospitalized for pneumonia, sepsis and other illnesses several times in recent months. He is 93 years old. As most of you know, Larry and Margaret experienced a near-fatal car accident in 2016, requiring years of very involved care to help them both recover. We are forever grateful for the incredible love, time, and financial support you provided that enabled them to navigate the overwhelming medical costs during their rehabilitation. Margaret, the love of Larry’s life, passed away this January 29th. In March, he moved from Oakland to Burlingame, California to be closer to his daughter Sarah and grandson Luca who live 15 minutes away in Pacifica. After a remarkable life dedicated to the theater, art, culture, peace, and the well being of those around him, Larry has entered hospice with an extraordinary attitude of consciousness. Inspired by him, we are acting as extended family to ensure his comfort and to support Sarah to be able to be present for and with him until his last breaths be it an imminent transition or a period of months. Background: For the past five years, Larry selflessly directed all his savings and income ensuring Margaret received the care needed after the automobile accident. This has left Larry no buffer for his own needs or the level of hospice care he requires to help meet the end of his life. Even now the bills for Margaret’s care are still being paid. Sarah, a single mother with a teenage son, has been sleeping in Larry's room since June 30th providing care and is barely able to return home. As an only child she is alone in providing care for him around the clock to fill wide gaps in basic Medicare-covered hospice. Only she is permitted or a skilled nursing staff can provide the medical care Larry needs. We're asking your help to support Sarah’s efforts and provide Larry the end of life experience he deserves. Your support not only provides comfort and care for Larry but alleviates the strain on Sarah enabling her to be there for her family and father during his amazing transition. We understand that times are challenging for everyone, and any contribution you can make would be truly appreciated. What’s particular to Larry here, is that he has been looking inward, finding fascination in his own dying process and sharing his observations. Sarah, also deeply introspective and interested in the human spirit, has been doing her best to stay present for him and for herself while also documenting some of his observations for all of us. Go Fund Me objective: Our goal is to hire a skilled hospice nurse who can join Larry and Sarah’s team to provide them with the support and guidance they need during one of the most important periods of Larry’s life. We also want to provide a buffer for the bills for Larry’s hospital visits and cremation so that Sarah is not heavily burdened financially at this time. We are deeply grateful for your love, kindness, and consideration. Your support will make a significant difference in Larry's life, ensuring his final days are filled with dignity, compassion, and the knowledge he is surrounded by a caring community. If you have any questions or would like to share any memories or well wishes for Larry, please post them or reach out to us. We will make sure to pass them along. Thank you for being a source of love and support for Larry and Sarah. With heartfelt gratitude, Andrew and Eric Moore, Ani and Izak Maitin, Lance McCready, Micala Sidore, Bill Oram, and Amanda Smith, Maya Dollarhide [Larry's Godchildren]
