Older brothers don't talk to their little sister about much growing up. One subject Dominic and I rarely talked about was his love life. But Dom used to tell our family he wasn't going to bring a girl over for dinner unless he was going to marry her. And he meant it.Dom and Lea met 4 years ago when they both worked as card dealers at The Meadows Casino. Dom would come home from work at night and gush to me about how beautiful Lea was, how he couldn't wait to go on break to sit with her, and especially how much he wanted to be with her. On June 30, 2012 Dominic and Lea became Mr. and Mrs. Scorza. They vowed to love each other for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, and until death did them part. But they never would have imagined in less than 3 years of marriage their vows would be tested like this.Lea began complaining of back and hip pain during the spring of 2015. After months of unresolved pain, what was initially thought to be scoliosis was unfortunately diagnosed as melanoma, a form a skin cancer. The cancer was metastatic and had developed into tumors in Lea's pelvis and spine which caused her initial pain, as well as her stomach, lungs, liver, kidney, cerebral spinal fluid, and her brain. The type of melanoma Lea has is rare because there are no skin markings, making it difficult to diagnose early.Since May of 2015, Lea has undergone orthopedic surgery to remove the tumor in her pelvis, oral chemotherapy pills to reduce the size of the tumors throughout her body, radiation on her brain, surgery to have a shunt placed in her skull to drain excessive cerebrospinal fluid, and immunotherapy treatment. The treatments caused her to suffer from daily headaches, nausea and vomiting, weakness, and visual disturbances. After months of being in and out of the hospital, Lea is now in the comfort of her home with her husband and family by her side. As of October 24, Lea's body has unfortunately stopped responding to treatment and her care is now in God's hands.Getting devastating news like this is something that no husband, parent, sibling, or friend can prepare themselves for mentally, physically, or financially. The countless amount of medical bills have become more than Dom can handle on his own. The Scorzas and the Satifkas would greatly appreciate our friends and families to offer prayers for comfort and monetary donations if you are able. Thank you and God bless!Briannon xo
