Hi Friends (both old and new)! I’m Sarina and I've lived with Type 1 Diabetes for almost 30 years, during which I’ve worked in a variety of industries including cafés, academia, and the nonprofit sector. However, my diabetic complications have recently made it impossible for me to work. I have autonomic & peripheral neuropathies, which are painful degenerative nerve conditions in my legs, feet, hands, and digestive system. I currently lack full use of my hands, legs, & eyes (diabetic cataracts), and have been forced by these limitations to quit my job. I am applying for Social Security disability benefits (SSDI), but the process/decision can take 12 months or longer. During this time, working even a little is considered proof that one is not disabled. My lawyers say I have a strong case, but I currently have no income, assets, or savings. There is no short-term disability in PA and other programs to help me through this period are very limited. My monthly expenses include rent, utilities, bills, food, medication, cat care, car expenses, & other living expenses. These total $1,600 a month, or $20,000 for 12 months (including LFEBridge fees). It’s not easy for me to lean on my friends, family, and community. I’m very independent and self-sufficient, but I am asking for your help to get through this very difficult time. Any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. If you can’t donate, please share this fundraiser with your friends and family, as that is also a huge help. Thank you! Sarina
