We all encounter exceptional individuals who leave an everlasting impression on our lives, and our dear friend Skyler, a partner in the Starbucks Heritage Market, is one of those rare gems. Known for his genuine sweetness and caring nature, Skyler has uplifted both partners and customers who have had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Today, we come together to support him during a challenging time, ensuring that his radiant presence continues to illuminate our lives. Skyler is more than just a friendly face; he embodies the heart and soul of the Heritage Market. Every interaction with him exudes warmth, kindness, and genuine care, leaving an indelible mark on the countless customers who enter our stores and the partners that bring our mission and values to life. Despite the challenges life has thrown at him, Skyler has faced them with resilience and an unwavering spirit. Unfortunately, he has recently encountered significant health issues that present him with an unfortunate ultimatum: without assistance, he will be compelled to relocate. This prospect is devastating to him since he specifically moved here to work at our store—a place that has become his sanctuary, filled with cherished memories and treasured friendships. Now is our opportunity to rally together as a community and support. Let us show our gratitude for the countless smiles, heartfelt conversations, and moments of solace Skyler has provided. Our goal is to raise funds that will alleviate the financial burden accompanying his health challenges and allow him to stay in the Heritage Market and Seattle; his chosen home. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a profound difference in Skyler’s life. In Skyler's words: "On April 16th I had an emergency surgery for an inguinal hernia that was twisting off and threatening to kill my large intestine. I was forced to take 3 weeks off from work with bed rest, and very limited mobility within my own home. After mostly healing from the surgery and returning to work, I suffered a double stroke on the night of June 15th. I rushed to the hospital and 12 hours and several scans later I was finally diagnosed with having a transient double stroke. Thankfully I did not have any lasting paralysis, though the cause of stroke for a 28-year-old healthy individual was still unknown. After 10 days of being admitted to cardiac intensive care for monitoring, I was misdiagnosed with APLS. This was quickly resolved the day after being discharged. Following the phone call the doctor placed me on preventative stroke medication and blood thinners and recommended a week of close monitoring for a returning stroke. With all of these events and healing it has led me to a very rough financial situation with thousands of dollars of medical debt (even with insurance) and the back-to-back medical emergencies causing me to need outside financial support." ___________________________________________________________________ Skyler never asked for my support in raising funds. Out of respect for his privacy, I did ask for permission in sharing his story. All funds raised to support Skyler will go directly to medical bills and rent.
